Where else in the city can you find three Indian restaurants on the same street??? Only North Oakland.

That is just one of the reasons North Oakland is an awesome place to live during your time at Pitt. Before moving to the neighborhood last June I didn’t know much about the unexpected perks of living in Oakland. I thought all of Oakland was filled with loud undergrads and partying frats (not saying that this isn’t a great way to live, but it was not what I wanted).

If there is one word to summarize the neighborhood it is convenience. I rarely ever leave unless I am going to the grocery store (which is a 15 minute walk). Listed on the map below are some of the places that I love and some of the amenities that make North Oakland a great place to live.

As with any other neighborhood there are pros and cons

Pros                                                         Cons

-Public transit is dependable                            -Parking is limited
-Everything is in walking distance                   – I spend all my money at CVS
-More affordable than surrounding                 -There can be a lot                                 areas                                                                        of traffic for a residential area.
-Short walk to class and field placement         -Apartments rent very quickly
-Gym is 5 minutes from my apartment
-Ten minute walk to Schenley Park,                                                                                  the museums and the library!                                                                                             — Quiet for the most part                                                                                                    – There is food every where                                                                                                     – Relatively  safe

The items I mentioned reflect only my personal opinions. If you frequent North Oakland or you are a resident and I missed something you love, let us know.
