Diwaloween Weekend!

I had another fun weekend, and it was a special weekend too! Diwaloween!! (Diwali + Halloween). It had such a great time with my friends! On Friday, we had a Diwali/Halloween Social Hour (Shayla will talk about this more) with lots of candy, pumpkin rolls, samosas, and Rangoli!

On Saturday, I went to Diwali Night, which was hosted by Ankur – Indian Graduate Student Association. It was a great night of performances from singing to different kinds of dancing. I was blown away to see that so many classmates were so talented! I also wanted to go the whole nine yards and wore a friend’s salwar kameez. I felt a little silly, at first, but the more I walked around, the more comfortable I felt. I was glad that I was able to be a part of an important part of my schoolmates’ culture 🙂 Oh, by the way, the food was so good; especially because they had my favorite dessert, carrot halwa!!! 😀

Finally, on Sunday night, the iSchool went to Hundred Acres Manor, an awesome haunted house in Pittsburgh. Everyone thought that I’d be the most scared, but I WASN’T!!! HA!! I actually laughed through half of it. But, I will say that it was still fun. They had a lot of really cool graphics and illusions that will really throw you off! I’m glad I got to end the weekend with some Halloween fun! It’s really one of my favorite holidays and I haven’t been to a haunted house in years! I’ve also always wanted to try a maze too, so that was definitely the icing on the cake.

H2P: Homecoming 2014

This semester, I celebrated my first Pitt Homecoming! The activities started on Thursday when I went to the Legacy Laureate Lunch and met Debra King, the iSchool’s representative. On Friday, I also attended the iSchool’s Alumni Awards Ceremony where Debra received the Distinguished Alumni Award. It was really great to speak to someone who is so accomplished and has so much wisdom and kindness to share with those who surround her.

Afterward, I went with two MLIS alumni to an alumni celebration at the Cathedral of Learning and ran into my buddies from Student Services! When the celebration was over, I saw the Laser and Fireworks show, which was AWESOME! I danced a lot ^_^.

Saturday, I went to the homecoming game with some MST friends! The game was horrible, but I enjoyed the company 🙂

I had such a fun homecoming! I can’t wait to come back to Pittsburgh and do it all again next year!

Ohiopyle!

Last weekend, I went to Ohiopyle State Park with the iSchool. It was really great spending time with people I don’t see normally (different programs). We went bike riding, sat by the water (after climbing down a bunch of trees and rocks) walked around the town of Ohiopyle, and ate…a lot. Luckily, we came the weekend of the town’s Fall Buckwheat Festival, which a resident described as sort of a homecoming/reunion for folks who moved away from the town. It was filled with music, food, and vendors. I even met a fellow Marylander that sold amazing popcorn!

When I came to Pittsburgh, I decided I was going to experience everything! It’s always a good idea to take advantage of the awesome attractions and sites around you. Ohiopyle was beautiful. It is a great place to get away from school and get in touch with nature (seriously…there’s no 4G out there). A much needed break!

Thanks, Priya for the awesome photo! Of course, her friend, Abhinav, is taking the picture…but it’s her camera 🙂
