I have finished my first week of classes at the iSchool, huzzah!

I am in the Archives & Information Science track, so I have a set schedule for fall. I am currently taking Archives & Records Management,  Introduction to Information Technologies, Preservation Management, and Understanding Information. As expected, there is a lot of reading. A lot of reading. However, its all for a great purpose. All four of my classes are working towards building a solid foundation of the history and goals of the Library Information Science field.

The instructors are a mix of professors and Ph D students, and every class has an atmosphere of collaboration. Our instructors are interested in hearing our opinions, and facilitating academic conversation. The best detail of our instructors is the fact that they are actively working to further our field, through research and projects. Hearing how excited a Ph D student is about his or her dissertation or project creates excitement and confirms my reasons for being at Pitt.

My first week has also included my first day of work at the iSchool Student Center as a Commonwealth Scholar, and my first day of work at WQED-FM as an Archiving Intern. Both have required getting down the basics while hitting the ground running. Things are only going to get busier!
